Texas woman no longer considers herself pro-life following non-viable pregnancy

Kimberly Manzano, a Dallas-Fort Worth area resident, was overjoyed to learn in January 2023 that she was expecting a baby following a previous miscarriage. Early in the pregnancy, Kimberly learned her baby wouldn’t survive outside the womb due to multiple fatal fetal abnormalities. Despite their prior anti-abortion stance, Manzano and her husband prayed with their pastor and decided that the most loving thing to do for their son would be to terminate the pregnancy. However, Texas laws, lacking exceptions for fatal fetal abnormalities, forced them to seek services in New Mexico. Manzano was one of seven women who in November 2023 joined an ongoing court challenge to Texas’ abortion laws, Zurawski v. State of Texas, bringing the total number of plaintiffs in the lawsuit to 22, including two doctors. Following her experience, Kimberly no longer considers herself anti-abortion and has even ceased donating to anti-abortion groups.
